The Social Security Administration (SSA) is set to introduce secure digital access to Social Security numbers (SSNs) this summer. This initiative aims to provide a more convenient and secure alternative to the traditional physical SSN card. Starting in early summer 2025, individuals with a “my Social Security” account will be able to securely view their SSN online through the SSA’s portal. This feature is designed to assist those who have forgotten or misplaced their SSN cards, allowing them to access their number without the need for an in-person visit or waiting for a replacement card to arrive by mail.
“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of the SSA. This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. To take advantage of this new feature, individuals must have an active “my Social Security” account. Once logged in, users will have the option to securely view their SSN on their mobile devices.
Embracing technology, the agency aims to provide a seamless experience for its beneficiaries, ensuring that they can access services with greater ease and efficiency. However, it’s important to note that while digital access is being introduced, the SSA will continue to offer traditional methods for those who prefer or require them. The agency remains committed to ensuring that all individuals have access to the services they need, regardless of their technological capabilities.
