Bangladeshi expatriates in New York celebrated Mother’s Day by presenting flowers to their mothers. On Sunday, journalists, freedom fighters, and community leaders participated in a day-long program at the Jewish Center in Jackson Heights. Organized by the Sabita Mother and Children Foundation, the event carried the theme “Ma Amar Ma, Snehamoyi Ma” (“My Mother, Loving Mother”), with every attending mother being greeted with flowers.
The event was led by the foundation’s founder, Sabita Das, and attended as a special guest by New York State Assemblyman Steven Raga. He stated, “This day is not just for mothers—it also highlights the development of a community. Despite my busy schedule in parliament, I came because mothers make immense contributions to our society every day.”
Freedom fighter and journalist Lablu Ansar, Rashed Ahmed, and community leader Prabhat Das also delivered greetings. The event was moderated by Munmun Saha. Sabita Das said, “Representation of Bangladeshi women is steadily growing in this multicultural society. We must maintain this momentum—for ourselves, our families, and the development of our country.”
The program included poetry recitations and musical performances. Ruma Chowdhury of Rabindra Academy recited poetry, while artists from Bhonishikha Sangeet Niketan performed songs.
